Upgraded with tears in my eyes

Yes, I am saying goodbye to my Q6600 Go Stepping and Asus P5K-e wifi. It has been many, many years of happy computing and overclocking. I cannot wait for Haswell, and CPU prices never seem to drop radically anyway.

Ordered:
Intel i5 3570k 3rd gen Ivy cpu = £162.74 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Generatio ... 073&sr=1-1
Asus P8Z77-V LK Motherboard with crossfire and lucid virtu MVP, Sata 3 and USB 3 = £93.97 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-P8Z77-V-LK ... 026&sr=1-1
Arctic Cooling Freezer i30 CPU Cooler = £28.84 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Arctic-Cooling- ... 102&sr=1-1
Corsair CML8GX3M2A1600C9 LP Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Memory Module Kit = £33.95 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CML8GX3 ... 129&sr=1-3

Total £319 for new system.

Should be a decent upgrade, and plan on 4.6GHz overclock on arrival. Corsair RAM is Low Profile with normal heat-spreaders due to huge air cooler. Won't be adversely affected by O/Clock.

Later this year, a new GPU to take advantage of the PCi-e 3 slots if I don't go crossfire with current card +1.

Should get it by the 2nd of January.

Whoops

Damn your common sense attitude Nemes1s

I originally planned on just upgrading the RAM on the current system, as only running 4gig. By the time you pay DDR2 prices, you are looking just under £100 for 8gigs. I couldn't justify that amount on dragging out old tech, so saw the extra £200 for a whole new system as an investment.

SSD will be 2nd on the "what I need to get next' list, after the keyboard. I'll then get the kids some shoes, but the snow means it is nice and soft under foot for now

Re: Upgraded with tears in my eyes

Sounds like the upgrade I have been looking at with the 3570K CPU.
I am not sure if I will wait till summer though for an upgrade, because I will go big on RAM's so I can run my virtual machines. I would love to grab a ssd, however my current normal SATA drive with 300GB is getting very full with VM's and Origin/Steam folder of like 30 GB.Right now over 200 or so GB SSD's are pretty expensive still.

Re: Upgraded with tears in my eyes

Put only your OS on the SSD and keep your hardrive to put all you program, Origin and Steam files.
Works like a charm

Re: Upgraded with tears in my eyes

Nothing very potent I'm afraid Bambam. An ATi HD 6970 1mb card. Still runs everything sweetly though for now. As I mentioned in my initial post, this will be up for review later this year if need be.

1920x1080 on a 24" monitor only, so more than adequate GPU in those circumstances. No multiple screen layout like your own lol.

Re: Upgraded with tears in my eyes

It is indeed. The Q6600 still does all you will ever need, and thats coming from someone after an upgrade.
