Re: Format fail!

Lo mate. What size does it show in the BIOS for your hard drive Or, are you absolutely sure you have deleted all the partitions on the drive when you formatted it?

Try checking the drive management in Windows. Right click on "my computer", select "manage" and check the "Disk Management".

It might, just might show you have a partition or rather drive space that isnt allocated mate.

Re: Format fail!

Lo mate,

Reformatting alone, does not remove partitions, it just wipes the data on it. Partitions are a "set" area the pc sees of your hard drive. You need to delete the parttions first, Im assuming you have one partition of about 130gb and the rest of the space is unallocated. To remove the partition, and create a new one, ( im assuming you want to create one big partition using the maximum of the drive ) you can do this in a couple of ways.

How are you re-formatting? Are you doing this in windows during a fresh install process, or using MS DOS console?

You can do either of two things.

You can delete the partitions ( or rather delete them all and create one or as many as you want ) during the windows install process.

or

Just create a second partition ( for example a separate drive, such as E, F, or G or so on ) in your "manage" section using the unallocated space in windows after the install. Create the partition in there and format it. It will then be seen in Windows Explorer and you can use that area for data. You will end up with 1 drive of 130 gig and another with about 350 gig.

Alternatively, you can use Fdisk from console using a boot cd/floppy/usb drive to delete the partitions and create a new one that way, but you should be able to do it in windows during the install, its the easiest way IMHO.

Re: Format fail!

Cheers for the respons mate! I google it, and i found something about that windows can't find a harddrive bigger then 131gb without microsoft service pack 1 or 2.

I'm trying to Install a bunch of drivers now but nothing seems to work, i will keep trying diffrent stuff and i should get it working sometime in the next few years!

Re: Format fail!

Could you see the entire 500 gig in the bios hard drive section?
