Re: Acer or MSI

All I can really add, is that I have had several ( approx 25 ) MSI mainboards for work and home ( not laptops ) but they have never really let me/us down, lasting years in some cases. ( no punn intended ). Cant really say how there laptops fair, as ive not had one for work or home.

However we have had several Acers. These seemed to run pretty well and the build quality was "ok" but they do run VERY hot ( or the ones we did have anyway ), and in doing so, can get noisy because of the fan going on and off. I dont think this was related to the processor being AMD, just the nature of there build and cooling setup. Might of improved since...

If you really cant make up your mind, and both have what your looking for... then check the warranty...

It would appear the MSI has 2 years, compared to the Acer 1 Year....

Re: Acer or MSI

It was more the AMD v Intel debate.

and the GFx cards? the MSI one seems a little worse than the ACER one, but then again, im not plannin on hardcore gaming really, just WoW and maybe some older 3+ years old games

I dont like the idea of running hot tho :( hmm

cheers for fast reply IXL

If thats all your worried about, I would say theres not that much in it temperature wise. Not that you would really "notice" whilst using it anyway. Perhaps there are some reviews on each from a third party...?

Good luck anyway.

One last thing I would say, check which ( if you havnt already ) is the older model. If one is older than the other, a newer edition might be out soon (perhaps nearer christmas even) . So either the price might drop a little or you can spend a bit more and get a better model.

Re: Acer or MSI

I can only comment on Acer as a company as I've had my Aspire for over three years now. I had to send it twice for repairs under warranty - DVD drive got stuck and overhearing because of faulty/worn out power fan. They fixed in max of 4 days both times (repair centre is somewhere near Plymouth) so I would not worry if things go bad. Acer are decent laptops in my opinion. If you go with Acer, worth buying the extended accidental 3 years warranty.

Re: Acer or MSI

Hi Lego.

Just wondered if you had any regrets with the MSI ?

Im at the same bridge myself, as my LT has packed up, and although I am going to order a new MB for it, I think its time to get a new LT anyway.

Just out of curiousity, is yours 64 bit or is it 32 bit?

Thanks

Re: Acer or MSI

Manage to buy myself a replacement mainboard for my LP, fitted it and got it all working again, so saved myself a mint for at least a year anyway. Gunna give it a miss on getting a new one for now. :)
