Re: problem on startup

Re: problem on startup

How many usb devices do you have plugged in mate?

If you have more than just the mouse and keyboard, unplug them all and just leave it with the M&K plugged in and see how you get on. Also just check you have the latest drivers for your mainboard. Might be an update with the usb and device manager might be throwing a fit.

Could also be a virus, unlikely, but possible, which interfers with the devices.

Your not using a usb hub at all?

Re: problem on startup

are the keyboard and mouse plugged independently into separate USB ports ?

If they both fail on startup (wierd) do the other USB devices still work ? (Not sure how you'd tell as you can't get past the logon screen but maybe you can).

I'm guessing that if both kb & mouse fail independently, it is actually your USB subsystem that's dying. It might be possible to plug the kb into a PS2 port if your PC has one and the little adapter to test things a bit further.

Re: problem on startup

This may sound weird but we get this problem with winodows xp and intel motherboards at work. Fix, turn off PC and then switch psu off at back of PC but leave plugged in (earthed) then hit the power button on front of PC so the PSU disapates its capacitor.
Dont ask why, but it works. As I said only seems to be intel boards this weird bug.

Re: problem on startup

take all ya usb connections out.
start ya pc with nothing in.
when its up and running
plug them in one by one waiting for windows to install them as you go.
